1. Whole Plate Photographers Column [General Discussion]

Welcome to the Whole Plate Photographers Column (WPPC for short).

Introduction

Sometimes, things happen.

By coincidence, Hollis and I discovered that we both use the same whole plate camera manufactured by the Charten Camera Company in Japan at the turn of the last century.

Since there is no dedicated resource group for whole plate photography on the internet, the idea of the Column sprang up with a view to sharing our ideas and resources about contemporary whole plate photography and its practice.  Not lest, to help  each other develop our own whole plate photographic practice.  It strikes me that there is no web resource for whole plate photographers, looking to try to a) assemble a vintage whole plate camera together, or b) develop a personal aesthetic in whole plate photography.   In many respects, there is sufficient information interspersed amidst other search engines and forums regarding whole plate format however little to firm up the identity of 'whole plate' as an entity in its own right. The whole plate Column attempts to address this by using open access software for whole plate photographers to add, edit and create their own relevant whole plate articles, reviews, or comments.

I guess then, that this is an experiment.  Having no experience of running a Column nor possessing mastery of its software, I wondered if it would be   helpful to run the Whole Plate Photographers Column for a trial period of six months.  Thereafter, re-evaluate whether it has a useful role in furthering whole plate work.

We hoped that this Column might be on the same level for everyone (except spambots) and for anyone wishing to use it: that is - feel free to post relevant articles or images on the group or add relevant links.

Kind regards,

RJ

Oh dear.....

I'm not very good with all this digital stuff!

Maybe just leave the Column as it is before I wreck it completely?!

Kind regards,

RJ

Hi RJ,

Your 'wondering' is something I've been thinking about for my own
Google Group, so I'd be very interested to see what sort of reaction
and take-up you get for the Wholeplate Group.

I did click on the link to http://wholeplate.forumotion.com/forum.htm
and whilst I do like the look (and colour!) of the 'Home' page, it
