RJ, y'r Apo Saphir is anomalous. The serial number is low for the
late '30s, the shutter is post-WWII. I suspect that the last digit of
the s/n is missing; this would place the lens in the early- or
mid-60s. If so, it is coated. The oldest of my Apo Saphirs, a 300 s/
n 614259 is certainly coated. Boyer started having lenses coated no... more »

You wrote "Its dialyte design possesses a smaller angle of coverage,
aperture for aperture, compared to a Tessar type design."
This depends on the dialyte and the tessar. Per Nikon, symmetrical
Apo Nikkors (dialytes) have more coverage than asymmetrical type Apo
Nikkors (tessars). All f/9 process lenses.... more »

H. Lynn Jones, whom I think you're quoting, has an obsession to the
effect that at one time the US descendant of C. P. Goerz (Berlin) was
owned by American Optical Company. American Optical Company of
Springfield, MA, has been in business continuously since 1833. I've
found their corporate history; it contains no mention of Goerz... more »

Hi Diane, Nice to see you work out how to upload the images! It's taken me this long to grasp how to do this on the Whole Plate Column! For anyone else wondering, a text message addressed to the group with the attachments embedded into the email should resolve this. Diane - please don't tell anyone that I managed to delete the article draft... more »

Whole plate & Jobo drums?
|
| |
Any experience with whole plate film and jobo drums? Will whole plate
fit in a 3005? 3010? 3006? I'm not sure of the jobo numbering system,
but I'd like to process 6.5 x 8.5 in a daylight drum.
Also, is the 6.4 x 8.4 kodak TMax offered on Glazer's website for
Whole Plate? I expected to see it listed as 6.5 x 8.5. Do any of the... more »

Whole Plate: Camera & Equipment

In the Summary to the page, "Whole Plate: Camera & Equipment
Discussion & Questions", it stated under "Vintage; 1. Tailboard
Design", a number of manufacturers of such cameras, although one
which didn't appear (and one on which I worked during the 1960s) was
the good old 'Gandolfi'.
Whilst it was stated of the other 'Tailboard Designs' (Frank Shoulder... more »

Thanks for showing the effect of this wide angle Diane.
The lens fall off seems very characteristic of the modern Japanese or
German lenses. I find this kind of optical illumination fall-off less
appealing, however it seems to happen often with the Schneider Super
Angulon 90mm XL lens.
Have you been able to calculate how much rise (in millimetres) is... more »
