**UPDATE 27th June 2009**

Just an update for anyone not on the email list. "Between Water and
Land" is the first mini-portfolio [8 page article] which is scheduled
for printing in Viewcamera Magazine May/June 2009.

The book project deadline looks set for Autumn 2009 for completion of
the image portfolios from all the current participants.

Hi Dan,

The coverage was given at 1:1 since the lens was designated as a macro
lens.

It makes sense to offer the coverage at infinity, since this is the
application which Diane
uses the lens for.

Most of my experience with the dialyte types relate only to the Carl
Zeiss Tessar/Apo-Tessar types vs Germinar dialyte types. I have no
experience with the apo-nikkor lenses, although I've noticed you are
fond of these. The Nikkor plasmats and tessars which I have used,
never included the process lenses, which probably have terrific

sorry for the delay in responding.

This Apo-Saphir does indeed hail from the 1960's. It's coating is
very beautiful particularly for monochromatic rendering. I've not
had any inclination to work with colour although perhaps it would give
a more interesting perspective on the quality of the coating.

RJ, y'r Apo Saphir is anomalous. The serial number is low for the
late '30s, the shutter is post-WWII. I suspect that the last digit of
the s/n is missing; this would place the lens in the early- or
mid-60s. If so, it is coated. The oldest of my Apo Saphirs, a 300 s/

This depends on the dialyte and the tessar. Per Nikon, symmetrical
Apo Nikkors (dialytes) have more coverage than asymmetrical type Apo

RJ, Schneider's data sheets give coverage at infinity. Why not quote
that rather than coverage at 1:1. Some people don't understand that
coverage at infinity is half of coverage at 1:1.

Also, not all G-Clarons are 6/4 plasmat types like, e.g., the Symmar.
Older ones are 6/2 double anastigmats like, yes, Dagors.
