Richard, I am afraid you will need to be a little more precise before
I can be much help, if indeed I can help at all. Do you have a
forename? Or approximate date? Or place of residence in America?

You may well be right, but I am sorry to say that I do not know
whether the E. Weller you mention worked for the chairmakers B. North
in Wycombe, the subject of the photo. I only know that it is not my
grandfather Edward Weller, who had been a partner in the family
brewery and was long dead in 1937.

The 1861 enumerator's writing certainly leaves a lot to be desired.
The details for George Girdwood CHANNER could be: Head, Married, 50,
Colonel Bengal Artillery Retired, born Middlesex, Sutton, but I see in
the 1871 census he was ex Royal Artillery. In 1871 his birthplace is
given as Sutton Niston, Middx. (The Findmypast 1861 transcript has

In order to search the Berrick Salome parish registers themselves, I
think you would need to go to the Oxfordshire Archives. I am assuming
you are in UK. Check before you go that they do indeed have them, and

Weller (resident of Berrick Salome, Oxfordshire, England, b 1874).

You ask where the records of Mary Ann Weller's death came from. It
looks as though her date and place of death being 17 May 1871 in High
Wycombe came from the IGI (and its FamilySearch website) which is
notoriously unreliable. This particular record was submitted by Ann
Wilkinson. I would stick to your own findings from primary sources

the Melbourne area in the likely time frame to have a son who died in

I can confirm that the greyhound with rose in mouth and the motto
Steady was being used by our line of the Wellers. There are old pieces
of silver and so on with this emblem from George Weller (who owned the
brewery in Amersham), and it can even be seen carved into stone
doorways in the town.
