Well, I'm sorry to say but I really think this carbon footprint stuff
is just another "feel good" stunt being pulled by the government for
one reason or another. I certainly cant do my job without using my
car on a daily basis so I'm not going to worry about it. Public
transport just doesn't offer what I need, it doesn't go where I need
it to, its to risky to use with what I have to carry, and it would
certainly be more expensive.
The way i see it is like this::
The governmment want everyone to use publc transport? Why do we have
one of the worse public transport systems in europe? Buses produce
more polution per person than an average family car, the government
also want to encourage people ontto trains and trams, where do you
think the electric comes from to run electric trains? It comes from
the power stations that burn fossile fuels to generate it, so really
it makes no difference because if you give up your car you are still
liable for carbon emissions its just that you are probably unaware of
the end result.
Also, if this current government were really bothered about the
subject of climate change and using personal transport, do you not
think they would offer some real incentives to change to hybrid
drives? Such as serious tax deductions or perhaps even cash
incentives, and do you also not think that they could set an example
by running these types of vehicle if they are so good for the
environment? Lets start with Tony two jags .... or even the queen,
where are their hybrid vehicles? eh? In the garage? Not on your life,
they probably wouldn't even know what a hybrid drive looks like if it
bit them on the backside.
Another thing that makes me think its a waste of time is that china
are building a coal fired power station at the rate of about 1 every 3
weeks or something like that. Now these chinese people are quite
clever, so why are they not utilising solar power? More to the point
why aren't we? Why is it that you have to apply for planning
permission to erect a small wind turbine on your property or install
solar panels on your roof if you are trying to do your bit for the
environment? The system to me seems all wrong, or maybe its just
plain old corruption and someones pocket is getting lined with some
serious cash. There certainly seems to be something going a miss or
the true facts are being hidden inside a bundle of statistics.
America is another country with double standards, the yanks are
jumping up and down about having to pay approximately £2.50 per gallon
for petrol. They should try living over here for 6 months, that would
shut them up. Those of you who are sitting here reading this thinking
that high fuel costs are doing their bit to save the planet, I would
like to ask if you have ever though of the repercussions of these
actions? Probably not. The cost of delivering goods to the
supermarket will rise, costs of delivering goods to your door after
'online shopping' will rise, delivering you post will rise, taxi fares
from A to B .... will rise, the cost of your annual week in the
sun ..... will rise. Do you see where this is going? Sooner than you
think no-one will be able to do anything because of the sheer cost of
getting it done or going from here to there, and how long do you
think it will be before people will start losing their jobs because
of the cost of deliveries into and out of the workplace, or perhaps
the cost of providing a service like the washing machine repair man?
Personally I cant wait for the nimby's and do-gooders to bring this
country to its knees, then i'm going to run around saying "I told you
so" whilst living on unemployment benefit because I cant afford to use
my car for work.
