Description: Discussion of UK telecommunications

(OT) Re: Are Virginmedia blocking SayNoTo0870 ?
...It's quite likely that VirginMedia are running transparent proxies, so a trace that doesn't use port 80 will not be particularly valid. If they were filtering, they would do it in their transparent proxy. Cross-posted and followups to uk.telecom, as more appropriate for 0870/1 issues.

Panasonic Systems KXTDE - Any good?
Hi, We're looking for a new phone system and have been shown Panasonic KX-TDA, KX-TDE as well as some BCM50. Is there any reason why we should avoid any of these with a barge pole? We are probably going for the IP phone route. About 40 users.

Unsolicited calls from the USA
I frequently get unsolicited calls with an automated voice with an American accent offering me a free holiday in Florida. It seems that the "free" holiday is not free at all as you are required to pay for over-priced flights. How widespread are these calls? I get about two a week. I assume there is no way to stop these or trace where they are originating.... more »

Junk call - two numbers
I had a couple of junk calls from Serif today - I did not answer it but recognised the number. My normal phone displayed their 0800 number but I have a second BT Internet softphone number and that phone picks up calls on the main line, it showed a local number at the same time. I don't think they have a call centre locally. I can see the logic of displaying a local... more »

How long does it take BT to un-DAX a phone line?
How long does it take BT to un-DAX a phone line? A friend wants to get onto broadband - and the availability checker on IDnet site says there is an "incompatible product" on the line. BT have confirmed that it is DAX. How long does it usually take to remove?
