This is a weekly short posting giving brief details of where to find
more information about the subject of uk.telecom: telecommunications
in the UK.
The FAQ for the group is available on the web at
<URL:[link]>
The FAQ is dated May 1996. This may seem out of date but the basics

The MP3 device has not been purchased yet. Any-sensible-voltage to any-
sensible-voltage conversion shouldn't be too difficult but presumably
5V should be fairly prevalent inside the exchange given it's
microprocessor proclivities?
Owain

If it is, you could get another Three SIM on ThreePay, then set up diverts
to the real Three mobile (assuming they come under the 'free Three to Three
calls'). Then pick a SIM from A.N.Other network and port that number to
your new Three SIM. I think that should mean Flextel pay A.N.Other
network's termination rates, which would be covered by the 0871 fee.

That's if it doesn't cost to much, which of course will depend on
where said person is living. If they're in the sticks then there is a
chance that there will be no divertible pairs whilst if it's a urban
environment the chances are greater that there will be divertible
pairs.
Only one way to find out......order broadband and wait to see what

I had a couple of junk calls from Serif today - I did not answer it but
recognised the number.
My normal phone displayed their 0800 number but I have a second BT
Internet softphone number and that phone picks up calls on the main
line, it showed a local number at the same time. I don't think 0870 is called 'national rate' any more - is it? It used to
be, when 0870 cost the same as a national rate 01/02. And then remained so
by some people.
0870 was never linked to the price of 01/02 - so 01/02 got cheaper but 0870
didn't. 03 is linked so this shouldn't happen.
I suspect the wording is because a few people (businesses and LUS mainly)

 news:e9TDQNAnCjCLFw2K@[127.0.0 .1]...
You could do either but BT probably wouldn't act on a request to remove DACS
from a voice-only line, as that is what DACS was designed for, i.e. a
modern-day equivalent of a party line but with the advantage of
"transparency" as far as the customer is concerned.

A private company claimed I owed them some money. I called their number
from my mobile withholding my number. I'm certain that they did not have
this number but they called me back on it a few days later!
Somehow they did trace my number even though it was withheld.
