Good idea! I, for one, will. Thieves, rapists, terrorists, even killers are let out quicker than Steve, who has committed no crime, but refuses to kowtow to the Scottish Judiciary over a matter of personal preference. You may not agree with Steve's method, but do you agree with the Scottish Judiciary's method of bullying someone they don't like? -- Duncan Heenan

The card is an excellent idea. Duncan also makes a very good point too. How about if we all write to the MSP for the prison pointing out the stupidity of keeping a harmless man behind bars at great expense to the taxpayer and make the comparison Duncan has? Anyone know the right person to write to and with the time to draft the bones of a letter for us all to send.

It`s all well & good sending Steve a Christmas card wishing him well & "keep up the good work" but isn`t it time he said, " i`ve done enough, it`s time i spent some quality time with those i love". I know he`s supposed to be holding up strongly, but surely all this time behind bars has to be having an adverse effect. I shall be sending Steve a Christmas card, but asking him to take some time out to reflect. I don`t suppose for one minute that he`ll do that, but the guy needs some quality time ( & decent food ) Just my opinion. Hamish

If you want to do that, wouldn't the appropriate MSP be Kenny MacAskill, the Justice Secretary, rather than the local member in whose constituency HMP Perth happens to lie? (The MSP for Perth is Roseanna Cunningham, so I'd guess that it would be her if I'm wrong.)

I would have thought that writing to the justice minister would be the better idea. Alternatively, you could consider getting together and petitioning the Parliament.

Lets be honest and put this into perspective The only reason SG is rotting in prison is because of himself, no other reason.
As for the guy needing quality time, its his own fault he is still there and I think its what he wants
As for decent food he is getting three hot meals a day, more than many in this country if you think about it.
Also if you start talking moral values lets not forget that Mr. Gough esq. has not supported his own children for a number of years, all in all he is doing what he wants, he is fed watered and warm, he can watch TV, he can play pool or snooker, get education and with no cost.
He should be thrown out of jail, made to get a job and made to support HIS children
How many people have lost their jobs due to the recession, how many of these law abiding people can afford three hot meals a day and look forward to a proper Christmas dinner.
Sorry but I feel this had to be said, and lets not forget Mr. Gough is not a naturist by his own words and is little short of being an exonbitionist or crank

Well thanks a bunch for a bit of Christmas charity and cheer!
Steve himself acknowledges that he is not a naturist (What is a naturist?) he is doing what he feels is right, and without people like Steve making sacrifices to fight for rights you and I would have far fewer privileges than we do, for a start Sheila would not have the vote if it were not for Emily Pankhurst's fight for womens rights.
Why do you feel the need to make this a personal issue, Steve's private life has little to do with an outrageous attitude towards nudity, and Steve is no more an exhibitionist that you are, unless you can explain the difference between his nudity and your nudity!
> Stephen Gough > Human Rights Political Prisoner No. 81590 > Segregation Unit > HMP Perth > 3 Edinburgh Road > PERTH > PH2 8AT
My question is: Is he truly a 'human rights political prisoner'?? This is NOTHING to do with whether I agree with his approach or not - is that a lable he has been accorded by the Scottish Justice system, or is it of his own selection and putting it on a letter to him would be to join him in that claim?

Historically incorrect. The Pankhurst's campaigns had little influence on the result. What had much more influence was WW1 and it's effects.

You fail to grasp Les's simplistic attitude to everything. Anything that Les is , is only correct the way that Les does it, he has the perspective of a keyhole. So if Les is a naturist, then only people who are naturists in the same way that he is are "real naturists", if you are not a naturist then you are a "pervert" or an "exhibitionist". You can extrapolate this view through any other serious of opinions that Les has, ie His is the only Church /God, all other drivers are in the wrong, the law is an ass if it doesn't agree with him, XYZ should be illegal, etc, etc, ex bloody cetera.

I would image it might stop it getting through " We have no human rights prisoners here, this must be to the wrong HMP Perth, better bin it!"

No I didn't add anything to the address, and yes it does get through. The only thing that stopped one of my letters was when it coincided with one of his releases, and by the time the letter was returned to me he was back behind bars! If it bothers you that much, just drop the human rights bit: Prisoner No. 81590 Segregation Unit HMP Perth 3 Edinburgh Road PERTH PH2 8AT
Although I would agree that he is a human rights prisoner, as his rights have been infringed, this is a civil law issue and he hasn't committed a criminal act. At no point have they even tried to prosecute him for any sexual misdemeanor.

Peter I do not wander around the countryside naked, I do not go to court naked, that's the difference between Mr. Gough and our nudity. Plus I support my family and have never sponged off the state, as for a personal issue I have morals and pay my way Gough has no need to be banged up its his choice, as for Christmas spirit how about sending cards or donations to his ex wife and children so they can EAT and ENJOY Christmas

I'm quite sure his ex-wife is cared for, and you conveniently forget the debt this country owes to Steve, he was a Royal Marine for many years, but his personal life has little to do with the attitude towards nudity.
So you're one of the anally retentive clubite naturists who believe nudity should only be in a secure unit, you choose to lock yourself away and YOU criticise Steve Gough for getting himself banged up! I'm sure Steve is finding prison life all too similar to barrack accommodation, at least he gets his own room and some peace and quiet where he is, unlike his days in the forces.

Your opinion only. How do you explain the same effect of the war on women in France, which did not lead to them getting the vote until many decades later?

As it happens Les, I probably do support his ex wife & children, and so do you if you pay taxes. -- Duncan Heenan

I've heard this claim ( that Pankhurst's campaigns had little influence on the result) before; it cannot be substantiated. All that can be said for certain is that the various campaigns for women's suffrage happened, so did WW1, and that women got the vote when they did. All else is supposition.
It seems to me utterly improbable that women would have got the vote when they did *without* the suffragettes and suffragists campaigns. It's also unlikely that they would have got the vote when they did without the effects of WW1. How much each contributed is simply opinion, saying "historically incorrect" to a valid POV is pure arrogance.

Mine and Purvis and Bartly ( sp?).

Not as many women in France working in munitions factories?

Sorry to disappoint you Pete but I am not one of the anally retentive clubite naturists as you so quaintly put it

I have nothing against clubs, I have a lot against that blinkered thinking that clubs should be the only place to practice naturism, and I refer to those who think that way as clubites.
I certainly do know what you stand for, you made that quite clear in your condemnation of Steve Gough, lets recap: "Sorry but I feel this had to be said, and lets not forget Mr. Gough is not a naturist by his own words and is little short of being an exonbitionist or crank" So, never having met Steve you consider him an exhibitionist and crank, if that's not a stance I don't know what is!
Funny how Steve is a crank, but a wealthy and ennobled gentleman would be considered eccentric. What is the difference between Ian Pollard and Steve Gough, they have exactly the same views on nudity, have both been nude in public view. And I'm acquainted with both of them by the way.
