Subject: Helmet fun (I blame Lozzo)
As is typical, cleaning the visor on my Quantum e just before I jumped
on the bike this evening, I managed to snap the side-plate-pod-thing off
breaking 2 lugs off. The visor will stay in place when shut or half
open, but comes detached on that side when fully open (which seems to
happen a lot as I often open the visor in low light or traffic).

I was going to grab my spare Arai, but Lozzo made me throw it away a
couple of years ago :-(

At some point in the nearish future I want to buy a new lid (what is the
current equivalent for someone with a Giga/Quantum-e shaped head?).
Unfortunately, that time is still a few pay days away, especially as
I've just had 3 insurance, 4 MOTs and 2 tax disks to buy.

Having had a quick look ont web, it appears that a pair of pods are
£25+P&P, but I'd much rather that went towards the new lid, rather than
extending the life of the existing on.

So, is anyone binning a Quantum-e/f, RX7RR/XX/IV, NR-3/5 or Rapide 3,
and don't need the left side plate (colour unimportant) or know a
convenient (cheap) source?

Just get one of Arai's £200 entry level ones. They work fine. Mine was an
RV but I think they call them Condors now.

That's what I was thinking as at £30-odd for the spares plus a fair
amount for a new visor (as it's not much longer for this world), it's a
significant way towards a Condor or similar.

I wonder who (if anyone) discounts them?

I was in HG Cardiff last week. Full RRP only, although I'm sure I'd get £20
off if my mate mouse was there.

Incidentally, the 20 year old sales twat on duty at the time deserved to be
punched. He was asked by a customer why polycarb helmets were cheaper than
fibreglass ones, and what were the advantages of spending more money. His
reply consisted of dissing the cheap polycarb products they were selling as
"only safe for scooter riders and pillions". No mention if the weight
advantage or longer durability. He wasn't even pretty, FFS.

J&S sometimes sell them at 10% off.

I've got a £20 HG voucher burning a hole in my back pocket and I'm happy
to haggle hard.

My Quantum-e was free, so that's a good starting point.

I've still got the Quantum/f I was wearing when the Trophy went west.  The
left sideplate is a bit scraped but seems to be holding.  I'll pry it off in
the morning and go postal if you remind me of your address.

It's a pity it's the left one - I've got a brand-new-in-the-packet right
one, and the right one on the old lid is untouched.

It appears you need to slide in a flat-bladed driver onto the red thingy
and as if by magic it's released.

And I'll e-mail you.

I'll try and do better in future

I'll practice on the right side one.

I can probably sort one out later in the week if for any reason Platy
doesn't come good with his.  In fact, you can have the whole lid if you
can UR it from NW London as it'll save me putting it in the pile for
tip.  It's a Quantum E (I think!).

Platy has the sidecover pinged off and enveloped ready to go.  All he needs
is the address.

I went from Quantum F to an Astro Race and it seems fine.
As always, getting the right sized cheek pads helps.

I've got a trashed Reynolds rep (Astro Race) that you can have the
side pod off if it fits. Drop me an email with an address if you
want it.
