This morning the lad and I have been fitting the supermoto wheels to his YZ85. All went well, though this stage of his apprentice fettling course revealed that his mild dyslexia sometimes extends to having trouble knowing intuitively which way to twiddle the spanner.
We knew the front brake was not fantastic, and sure enough the adjuster on the lever has been wound out almost to maximum. New pads then, but what to go for.
Unlikely it will be used off road much next year. Not being 'raced', so fade shouldn't be an issue. The brake needs to bite hard but not grab when stone cold.
I'm looking on Ebay to start because I have reasonable Paypal balance after shifting the Nordwest stuff.
Spoilt for choice.
So: Goldfren Metal ceramic SBS Racing Sintered Vesrah Kyoto Newcore Delta sintered
I've used SBS and I have some Goldfren for the Morini but haven't tried them yet.
Or RENTHAL RC1 WORKS sintered, at twice the price of all the above from the USA (though probably available off Ebay).
I'm inclined to go for at least a name I know.

"Carbone Lorraine" SBK5 (race) pads for me, in both the race bike and in the road bike too. I'll be putting them into the Hyper stoppers once the oem Brembo wear out, although those huge monobloc radials are fierce enough as it is!
I also hear good things about Performance Friction too.
Ta, I'll have a look. Forgot that Paypal can work outside Ebay. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: Pe...@ps-fisher.demon.co.uk | | Voxan Roadster [ SPACE ! ] Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+

Hmm, slightly different requirements and probably not available for MX bikes I guess.
I may need to upgrade the front brake on the faux WR250 if it proves at all competent on the hills. That'll be a bigger disc and some kind of cunningly fashioned mounting to move the caliper out though. I managed to crack (between holes) the front disk on my old Husky 510. Probably as a result of doing a Morini Cadwell on it. Didn't find out until the next weekend. Braking hard for Martini at Wiscombe when the front wheel stopped turning very suddenly indeed. The next owner got a decent sized disc made up.

I've used Vesrah, but not in anything sporty. I generally go for EBC or SBS but only because I know the name and trust them.
Don't rule out changing the disc. I have EBC Prolites (I think they're high carbon steel) and they stop like fuck in the cold.

Now there's a thought.

Tricity Bendix.
As to brake pads, I'm more than Happy with the Carbone Lorraine SKB5s that went on the thou before the Alps run. Bite like a pitbull from the first moment.
