So over 130 kph on ordinary roads - say 80 mph. Seems a bit mean.

Get an EU (polish/Lithuanian) License.
A lot of people I know now have one, and if they get stopped, they just show
that.
I even know of a few HGV lorry drivers that have them, and have never even
driven an HGV before, some still haven't and none have passed a test!!

When I got stopped in France I gave them a bit of paper I'd drawn a
picture of myself on. They were happy to accept that.

Apparently in France you're allowed artistic licence.

Trust MCN to be behind the times. Oh, and it's 50kph, not 40kph.

"McLaren has been made aware that Lewis was stopped for speeding in

received a mandatory fine and suspension from driving in France for one

That's not the same as having your license confiscated though is it?

Depends on how exactly they "confiscate" it.  Suppose they take it away and
lock it up in a big cupboard in the Gendarmerie.  You go home and tell the
DVLA it has been lost, and they send you a new one.

Timing and carbs now properly fettled. I just need to get it up in the
air to check for wheel bearing roughness etc before taking it for MOT.

> <rubs hands>

The oil filter bolt is mangled to the point of needing stilsons and
I have an ebay saved search for a royal blue LH side panel. I could
get both from Dave Silver but the paint and decals for the side panel
are a PITA so I'll see what comes along.
If I decide to keep it I will probably replace the rear mudguard with
One of Dave Silver's fibreglass ones.
The exhaust is nice apart from some rust on the No3 pipe, once again
a question of how far do you go.

Those f/glass rear guards look OK if painted silver.

Serious question here. You can chrome plastic, right? I mean, when you
buy plastic kits of cars and bikes and suchlike, you get chromed
plastic. And the Japs routinely chrome plastic parts on bikes. So why
can't one get one of those plastic pattern rear guards chromed?

Is there any particular reason. I mean, is it too hard to do something
that big, or what? Any platers here know the answer?

S'ok, I don't have an "EU licence" (whatever that is), I have a
British one.

Or do they mean "holders of a licence issued by an EU member state"?
