Cat D Write-off

It looks like my 95 BMW will get written off as cat. D. Just to put that in perspective, there is some damage to the driver's door, and that's it - it needs replacing or straightening. For my dad.. he reckons this will be his last car purchase.. So, 4 doors, 2-litre petrol (he's in Athens, he can't have a diesel, and anything larger than 2 litres gets *hammered* on tax). Other than that, money no object.. Mike P

Octavia vRS TFSI (50k, 55 reg, 6 cogs, about £9k) or Volvo S60 SE D5 (50k 55 reg, 6 cogs, about £9k ) Abit more tax with the Octy, abit more frugal in the Volve. Requirements- comfy, fairly handley, effortless mile muncher. Sensible running costs. Tim.

Ultra low profile tyres for sedate drivers only?

I've just got around to watching my recording of the recent Watchdog that talked about ultra-low profile tyres. Seems that the rims are prone to cracking on the UK's roads and that the car manufacturers are loathe to replace them on warranty, tending to reject the claims and blame the driver, saying that cars with such wheels require careful driving to avoid... more »

Band K includes vehicles over 225g/km but registered pre March 2006. Otherwise, these would fall into band L, which costs nearly £200 a year more. Does anyone know whether this concession is due to be phased out? If so, when?
