The road approaching the crossing is perpendicular to the gates (look at
the line between far left gatepost, near left gatepost, and turf
embankment behind the car). The car is parked 30 degrees skew from the
side of the road, and the sign is at least 80 degrees skewed.

But please note, this is not the view the driver got. No-one has yet
produced a picture from the other side.
