only just got my head `round this discussion group business
( confirmed IT Luddite ).
Anyway, just to say what a great social event it was, me being a

When I took the neck off my 1980 Strat I found a sticky paper label on each
of the neck heel and the socket, in more-or-less mating positions (as it
were :O). I could swear that removing them improved the tone but,
unfortunately, I didn't go to the trouble of putting them back to check
this.

Definitely. I just find it weird I've never heard of it mentioned
elsewhere.

Good idea. Anything that improves the transmission of vibration neck-to-body
would be beneficial, I'd have thought.

Excellent! Should provide many hours of fun, going to have to have a go
on this at some point. What finish V100 did you go for in the end?
I was talking with someone else from work about the possibility of a Zen
'guitar learners group' - there's quite a few Zen folk learning to play
and this would be a way of learning from each other. I'm happy to help

Seems a strange tip, but there's lots of positive feedback saying it
works - I may try it on a couple of my guitars, can't do any harm.

AFAIK the ASAT was a George Fullerton and Leo Fender design (G&L), don't
know about the Deluxe.

George, if you were presented with recordings of natives of Dewsbury
("Jawsbree") and Redcar, you'd hear the difference immediately.
Likewise Bolton (think Dibnah) and Blackburn (think: "...'e were a grrrreat
berker, our dad...").

Peter is right. There is a distinct and identifiable Manchester accent which
is harder, more guttural and - dare I say it - more aggressive than the
accents of the surrounding areas. Liverpool has the same sort of
characteristics. One thing you can say about the Brummie accent is that it
rarely sounds aggressive.

Discernable to you, Peter, maybe, you being a Lancashire lad.
However, to me, they all sound "Coronation Street"!
Much the same with Yorkshire as far as I'm concerned, too.
