Could someone please recommend a driving game? I own an XBox 360 but the driving games I've found so far just don't appeal. Basically I want something simple (I used to love test drive 2 on the Amiga
What I want: * Obviously brilliant graphics and sound * More Formula 1 than rally
What I don't want * Things like Need for Speed - burnout - these were just too fast and there wasn't much racing * Games basically aimed at kids that just want to see crashes. I found burnout need for speed too fast - it was just impossible. My reactions aren't bad - but that game was ridiculous. * Spend ages setting up the car or doing pointless stunts to earn cash so I can buy a good car
Games I've Liked * Driver, Driver 2 * Sega MotoGP
Games I've hated * Need for Speed * Project Gotham Racing * Gran Turismo 4

If you liked driver then have you tried any grand theft auto games? I always felt they just followed on the 3d GTA games from driver 2. GTA IV is cheap and can even be downloaded directly to the hard drive for about £20. In a similar vein but a little more fun and so forth is Saints Row 2.
there is actually a test drive game on the machine too, it has been out for ages and is cheap, is pretty good looking considering its age and has lots of different challenges, including delivering cars to destinations without damage etc. I still play it occasionally even though I've had it for yonks. it's called Test Drive Unlimited.

yeah, but if youre not online it wont show the online races anyway, iirc, so the loss wouldnt be major.

you can play it off live, but it is still running and still has plenty of drivers happily motoring around. supposedly another is in development but all I ever hear is rumours.

that's about the size of it. if you are going for all the GPs then there are a few which need to be gained online as it really was intended to be played that way.

I did try GTA vice city but (and chances are I've completely missed the concept here) but it seemed to be just steal car, run round , beat up policeman, shoot old lady - that kind of thing.
Is there a driving game somewhere that's say F1ish with all the bells and whistles but is playable without lots of hassle if I just want a quick race?

heh, well, not the old lady bit but no, there are many different kinds of mission and as there are helicopters and boats etc there's a bit more to them than stealing cars.

I'm not a fan of F1 games tbh but as far as i am aware sony have the actual F1 thing, so anything on the xbox is kind of fake. I may be wrong.
personally I love forza, and the newest one has just hit the shops. no f1 cars though but in this version you can pretty much drive if you've never done so before as they have added stuff like auto braking, each helper can be switched off too. I think you mentioned you didn't like gran turismo though so you probably wouldn't like forza.

" Hello. I'd like a pirate memory game, but not the one you have in stock...."

Sony haven't got the license anymore, Codemasters have it now. F1 games due on the Wii and PS2 this year, I believe, with 360, PS3 and PC to follow next year. -- Sean Black

well, there's some good news for f1 players. Like i said, it isn't my kind of driving, way too technical.
