does a Vacuum Time Lag Switch in reverse exist ?
TPTB appreciates that the PestStop device we have is discouraging the local cats & foxes from wrecking our garden but its presence unsettles her. The compromise we have reached is for me to fit a button which she can push which will disable it for an hour or so at a time. I can't find such a device - does it exist? I could make something with... more »

How do I connect hot water tank to central heating?
My tank takes 3/4" BSPM fittings, but they keep leaking (testing with air). The trouble is, the fittings don't screw all the way in, so I basically have to pack them out with loads of PTFE tape to get a seal, which I'm not happy about. Perhaps that's the way the pros bodge it? I'd prefer fittings that screw all the way in, but a suitable washer... more »

Slim 3 pin plug
Our kitchen telly is wall mounted and the mains lead is black which is quite obtrusive running down the wall. I want to change it for a white lead, IEC 3-pin at one end and a standard 3-pin mains plug at the other. However, the mains wall plug goes into a wall socket which is behind a freestanding cupboard so the plug needs to be as "slim" as... more »

Where can I find door knobs like this?
We would like to match the existing door knobs in the house when furnishing the extension. Does anybody know where we might find something that matches? I've spent a lot of time searching the web but no joy. Here is a photo: [link] As you can see, the rose screws onto the fixing plate to hide the... more »

Street stoptap update
There's been a hole dug in the street at the approximate location of the old one! (Apols for not following on old thread but I've done something strange to agent that makes it delete old posts...)

loft conversion _without_ strengthening roof?!?
We're about to buy a house, and _next_ _door_ the neighbour has "converted" his loft. He's a roofer, his father is a builder. I don't know them from Adam. The conversion (and the loft!) isn't very tall - it's about 6ft tall along the very middle, but move 1 ft either way and you bang your head. He's using it as his main bedroom - though he said that, if sold, the... more »

Interface from telephone to computer - options?
I want high quality sound from the telephone for making long distance coaching calls. So I want to use a binaural headset and microphone. I could get a seperate headset like the Plantronics ones, but it seems to me that I could just link the telephone to my Mac computer and listen and record (I'd like to record too) etc from the computer,... more »
