Hi all,
Anyone made their own air filtration unit, the sort of thing with HEPA
and or other techniques for keeping down the indoor stuff that
typically upsets allergy / asthma suffers please?
Googling about it seems like HEPA based jobbies are the best VFM and
as long as they process the air 5+ times an hour are ok.

I've just bought a couple of roller blinds from Dunelm Mill.
They were quite cheap and now I can see why! The mechanism that winds
them up and down is not up to much - nylon string with balls on it is
ok but the bit that winds the blind is stiff and weak.
The blinds themselves are ok and I've now chopped them to length so

 Hello -
I'm having an issue with British Gas (BG) who have been out 6 or 7 times to fix a leak in my 4 year old Ideal ISAR HE30;-replacing various parts they're damaged in the process! i.e they blew the PCB and damaged the front cover getting if off!
Now they're left saying its the heat exchanger engine (they fitted a new HE last year) and won't fit a new one because of how much they're spent and of cost of the part required (nearly £500).

Just had a 5 year old Panasonic Inverter combi microwave give up the ghost.
Analytical bit at end[1].
So, who makes good combi microwave ovens? I need max capacity, freestanding,
oven, grill, microwave (>800W) and ability to use all/any combination.
Rather gone off Panasonic. Thinking Sharp or Samsung?

We want a conservatory on the back of our house. It will be a simple
install about 4m wide and 3m deep, no doors and rectangular shape with
a 600mm wall. One wall will be the house wall, so three walls to be
constructed. Seems Edwardian is the stock shape.
Any national companies come to mind to use or avoid?

 Dear All,
As you know global warming is endangering the future of life on the
planet. It will also affect us;
rising sea levels, dwindling water supplies, mass deaths due to heat
waves, stoppage of the gulfstream, which
brings milder climate to north of Europe, super hurricanes, less food
due to droughts are some of the effects.

I have a house that is unoccupied. The existing heating is an oil
burning fire in the lounge with a big plastic oil tank in the garden.
This has been turned off for about 6 months. I now think that I should
have a little bit of heating in the the house to prevent frost/ice
damage of the pipes. It's an insurance requirement.

 Hi,
I'm looking for a thumb lock, the sort of lock you would have on
a bathroom door that has a knob on one side and a screwdriver / penny
slot on the other. BUT I need one with a knob on both sides! All the
ones I have found on the web have the more traditional set up and
looking at the illustrations I can't see if the splined / square rod is

double glazing removal

 Hi
I need to remove a double glazed panel from my back door. It has an internal
bead (is that the black rubber bit that fits against the unit and the
plastic mitred strips?). Do I have to get the bead out first, or just prize
up the 4 mitred plastic bits. Does that make any sense?
I'm trying to prise up the plastic bits but they don't seem to want to move.

OT ish; Ring Tones

Just changed to a new Nokia which has a 'record' facility. Apparently you
can record whatever you want, then use it as a ring tone! News to me -
although I'm prolly the last to find out.
This opens up huge possibilities - you can have an angle grinder as a ring
tone. Great!
Or an SDS drill, circular saw - anything.

I'm going to need to buy an additional chest freezer soon, to fit large
amounts of dead pig, and, inspired by the Miele/washing machine thread,
wondered if those here had any recommendations.
As well as reliability and energy efficiency I'm also looking for one which
can survive being left in an unheated outbuilding which does get below

CH Pipe Near Mains Cable

A pair of 10mm CH pipes to a new radiator I'm fitting crosses the path
of a mains cable either over or under it ...is it ok just to use
something like a piece of wood to keep them from touching
each other ? .
