I have an Aldi router table and to go with it an Aldi router.
It all fits together well but for one major problem... when the router is set up and switched on it gently disappears back to its parking position, no contact with any wood is possible as the cutter will not stay exposed.
I have tried tightening it up without any effect, the vibration of the machine overcomes the locking device and the springs force it back down.
So any recommendations on how to fix this, I know I can bodge something underneath to stop its movement, but it would be nice to be able to use the machine without doing that every time.
What router would be a good alternative to the Aldi model, that will stay locked, not cost a fortune (light use only as opposed to no use only) and fulfill my needs?

Mine doesn't do that, but instead the the gadget to lock the shaft to enable you to swap cutters, fell apart. If you can be bothered, take it back - I think they have a three year guarantee.

Yes... but what model should I replace it with, obviously not an Aldi product, something that is well made and does what I want it to do.

Assuming you're talking about a 1/2" router the Freud FT 2000 is perfect for use in a router table. They can be had on eBay in good nick from about 50 quid, and since they last for ever (and if they don't all the replacement parts are easily available, unlike a shed model) it's hard to go wrong. It has a threaded height adjuster with a big knob as well as a friction lever, so you can push it up quickly and hold it on the lever to change bits, then set the height manually using the knob. If you're talking 1/4" then the Trend T5 is the one to go for IMO, but it may turn its nose up at being used in an Aldi table :-)
