Hmm. Maybe. I can't help thinking that with a huge war against unknown
aliens going on, planets falling left-and-right, I probably don't need to
know what one of the 'B' characters had for breakfast.. :-)
I'll need something after "Temporal Void", so I'll check that one out.

It's a hazard of the doorstop format, I think. If you're following 26

enough of the 'flavour' to be authentic.

Ooh, nice, thanks. Although the Victorian writing style can be hard
going [1], so I probably won't find that so bad.
I don't mind odd stories, as long as there's a point to it in the end.
[1] as can many 'classic' novels - I tried reading Ivanhoe a few months
ago, and only go to page 2 before I put it back on the shelf.

Yes, it would seem difficult to have -7 messages. That's taking
inbox-zero too far!

Probably why then. the server is saying 0xfffffff9 to mean -7, and mail
treats it as 4294967289.
Either way, it is still a problem it thinking it is -7!

Boots from the install disk fine. Looks like I'll just have to build it
from scratch and reinstall everything. I've now run Diskwarrior and that
hasn't helped. I think it's just some kind of boot file missing as the
system seems bootable.
Shouldn't have trusted Time Machine - think I'll go back to SuperDuper.
