Subject: Changing Finder's "clever" sort ordering for numbers
I've only just noticed that Finder (10.5.5) has the same bloody
horrible habit as Windows Explorer of trying to be clever about
ordering files whos names start with numerals. Eg

0000
1
0000001-a
1d
1f
002
2a
003
10
001000
1970
011111

and it's rubbish, so I'd like to turn it off. Can it be done?

        Cheers - Jaimie

I tried this on a Windows system.  I get the order:

0000.txt
0000001-a.txt
001000.txt
002.txt
003.txt
011111.txt
1.txt
10.txt
1970.txt
1d.txt
1f.txt
 2a.txt

This does at least seem reasonable.  How did you arrive at your order?

It's the one I want.

Finder does it by itself. Or do you mean in Windows? XP defaults to
that sort order, I usually turn it off with a registry tweak.

with a teddy bear containing a radio-opaque teddy-bear skeleton.
