  If available. I would suggest getting one from
  a breed rescue, which usually gets dogs which
  are -- or look like -- a specific breed, which are
  due to be put down at a pound, or were returned
  by an owner from a previous adoption.  Swan and
  I have worked with cat rescue (there are breed
  rescues for Siamese, Persian, and other breeds )
  and Golden Retriever rescue. I'm constantly sending
  people to breed rescue rather than to a breeder
  for a dog or cat, if they want a specific type of
  dog or cat. Of course, there are many, many good
  mixed-breeds out there too, and I've worked to place
  a lot of them too.
