Pete, grateful if you could forward to SW4 People

As some of you no doubt know on May 4, Labour gained control of
Lambeth council and in Clapham Town Helen O'Malley, Nigel Haselden and
myself were elected for the Clapham Town Ward.

Councillor Paul McGlone from Ferndale ward is now heading up
regeneration, including the project formerly known as 'Revitalise' –
which we are now looking to rename. Paul spent a great deal of time
during the election helping us in Clapham Town and has first hand
experience of the issues around Clapham Leisure Centre.

Helen, Nigel and I will be meeting with Paul and council officers this
Thursday to discuss the development of the leisure centre.  I can
assure you that as we promised in the election the previous flawed
options are no longer acceptable for discussion. We will be looking to
how we can take forward the development on the current site and I will
be asking how the community can be more involved to ensure that any
developments best meet both the needs of the wider community and
current users.

I hope you are all very proud of the work you have already done in
bringing to local peoples attention the risk to local leisure services
– you succeeded in your first aims in getting the flawed options
rejected - but now the real hard work starts to ensure we get the most
from this development.

Personally I would like to thank you all. I have no doubt that the
threats to the pool and other leisure services were firmly in the mind
of many of the voters on May 4 – and as I have said your contribution
to highlighting this was invaluable.

As I get more information I promise to keep you informed

Kind regards

Christopher
