Hi Peter
The issue before the last council election was that a new pool was to be built on the Mary Seacole House site and that no guarantees could be given that the new pool would not be significantly smaller and shallower (owing to smaller area for rebuilding and proximity to tube line). Think there was even doubt that the site was suitable for a pool at all. There was also the issue of the depot site in its entirety along with the Old Town library being sold to private developers. Before and since the election the Labour council has guaranteed that a small part of the depot site be sold off, that upgraded swimming and Leisure Centre facilities remain on the depot site, that Mary Seacole House be used in part or in its entirety for Council services and that the Old Town library building not be sold to private developers. What has changed since then (understand there were various public consultations and presentations which I'm afraid I didn't bother going to) is that a new pool is to be built on existing site (rather than a renovation of the existing pool) and that the library will move to the High Street while the library building will be used for other community activities. Seems all OK to me... ? K </HTML> You must Sign in before you can post messages.
