Hey Joe,

The file should be named after the helper and it should be a ruby
file:

helpers/page_helper.rb

module PageHelper
....
end

So I have a file called page_helper.haml in src/helpers

It contains:

The file should be named application_helper.rb and yes it'll be
included through the site source. Ideally, you'll create a separate
file for each type of helper e.g. form_helper, date_helper. Something
else for the docs!

I have your doc changes noted down but I've had issues with FTP to
rubyforge. The statmatic.net domain has now been moved to my
company's servers and I'll get the doc changes up now the DNS has been
updated.

So more importantly, I have discovered that partial sub-directories
are not supported, I'm having to dump them all in "partials" and label
them config.intro.haml - would this be something worth developing?

The !locals syntax looks more like sass variables - perhaps you're
getting them mixed up. Each key/value pair in the :locals hash is set
up as a local variable in the partial.

Instead of:

!locals[!title]

Try:

= title

In your modules/pageTitle partial.

Hey Adam,

I managed to hack the core sufficiently to make it work. Most of the
action is happening in build.rb, in the lib\staticmatic\mixins
directory. There was also some hacking in render.rb in the same
directory. In the directory above that, there is a file called
helpers.rb, and that is where the stylesheet and javascript helpers

So the parameters are not appearing for me in the partial templates. I
am not sure why though. What appears instead for a set parameter is a
boolean value, i.e. true. That probably means that this vaiable is
set, but why are they not appearing then?

Sucks no one has piped up and helped out. I too would like to relocate
the image and javascripts folders. I tend to want to clear out the
site directory to create a new clean build, but having the images and
js in there makes that a more manual process.

You can already do this. Just set an instance variable in the src
file. You can add logic in the layout to handle it accordingly. I do
this to emulate the content_for functionality of rails all the time in
my staticmatic sites.

I think this would be a powerful feature to add, even though it would
not exactly add any functionality - it would save gluing a load of
partials together allowing users' code to be more linear.

Hey Steve,

The new extension typing sounds like a great idea. But perhaps with a
full on extension api, similar to jQuery and Drupal projects, these
enhancements can also be done by third-party developers. There are
always some small improvements that would be productive to some
developers, though not necessarily critical to the project as a whole.

It is something I have in the pipeline but there's a few other things
to hit first. The plan is to use rails style naming:

my_file.html.haml

The first extension will be used as the built filename.

It'd be difficult to achieve this with helpers. Helpers are used to
output code into your templates rather than affect the internal build

I haven't looked at staticmatic's internals to be able to answer this
question, so I defer to the experts in the list. Webby is pretty easy, but
has the slight annoyance of keeping all the template files as ".txt" files
(no .haml or .erb extensions).

Jacob,

There are several static site generators out there: nanoc, web-gen, webby,
jekyll, etc. (most support erb).

Keep in mind you can run an erb filter within a haml template, which may or
may not fit your needs.

Yes, I definitely do. But I'm wary about switching to Webby because I
already put a lot of effort to learning StaticMatic and the project is
at a pretty far advanced stage right now. So maybe I can crib this
functionality from Webby, and extend StaticMatic.

Hi Volkan,

Files can only be outputted with .html currently. However, there have
been discussions about changing this so staticmatic can be used with
other templating languages or scripting like shtml, php or asp. This
may come in a later release, but it's not top of the list.
