  It probably avoids some hair-splitting lawyer claiming it&#39;s not valid &lt;br&gt; because it says single instead of unmarried or vice-versa. Although &lt;br&gt; maybe it should say &amp;quot;demarried&amp;quot;.

  I have also seen this on my great aunt&#39;s marriage certificate even though &lt;br&gt; her divorce was high profile with reports in several national newspapers. &lt;br&gt; Strange really since everyone knew about it and she was the innocent party. &lt;br&gt; Peter Crosland
