Cleared the cache with no change. Deleted the old executables and now
the .jlnp runs as expected -- before it launched the old saved as
standalone executables instead.Created a new shortcut and all is good.
Thanks for the quick response!

Lewis

I've just tried it under 10.6.1 and I didn't see an error.

I do note, though, that my Library/Caches structure is very different.
E.g., I have /Users/richard/Library/Caches/ Java/cache/6.0/

You can delete/view your caches via Applications/Utilities/Java
Preferences (Network tab). Perhaps that is worth a try?

Unfortunately Sloppy does mess with the HTTP request it passes on to
the real server. As such, it's built just for HTTP.

Having looked a the code -- and SlowProxyThread.java [1] in particular
-- we only do HTTP, but I don't see why we can't detect that you're
asking for non-HTTP and just do a bottlenecked-pass through of that

Simulating slow network connections (i.e. bandwidth) is great - but
what about latency?

Would be great if I could specify a delay (connect time) for each
request to simulate latency in addition to the data transmission
rate. This would be especially useful for web 2.0 apps, where clients
may have a fast connection, but are located half way around the globe.

I've been looking for a tool like this, and I like it quite much. But
I've found I can't use it for the purpose I wanted.
I have a web application, which allows the user to upload some files.
But the upload fails, unless the file is only some bytes in length. I
get this message 'Processing of multipart/form-data request failed.

It should adjust on the fly: any time you change the selection in the
list of bandwidth speeds, that's what Sloppy should be using from that
moment on. If that's not what you see happening, it's a bug.

Hope that helps
Richard

 Hi there!

I love to use Sloppy for testing Flash apps so I can simulate slower
user connections. Thanks for a great tool!

I have one question about it though, is it capable of adjusting on the
fly? So if I have clicked "GO" and opened a browser window, will
altering the simulated connection speed alter my existing window or do

Look in the Options tab of Sloppy to see what port is used. Say its
1234. Then press Gonad normal (you'll get the error) but start you
browser manually and enter the address of [link]
the 1234 with whatever the port number was in the Options tab. I would say the typical broadband speeds would be great. I don't know
exactly how you have the settings now (like what 56k breaks down to).
Also i'm sure that "typical" broadband is different for you in the
UK. :)

In the US i would say these are the most common speeds (including dial-
up):
28.8Kb

Sounds like a good idea. Let me know what speeds would be useful to
you, and I can maybe add those in quickly, and then look at some kind
of modification to allow you to pick "Other..." from the drop down
list to set an arbitrary speed.
Thanks for the suggestion
Richard

I've been using sloppy for flash testing (it works great for FLVs).
However i was wondering if you could add more download speeds to
sloppy. I'm targeting broadband users so i would like to be able to
compare the difference between DSL and cable. In fact it would be
great to have a custom entry into the download speed as well!

I just ran the jnlp link, and entered a URL that requires digest
authentication. The dialg box popped up, but I could not focus on the
text boxes, or click any buttons.
I couldn't even close sloppy - it wouldn't respond to clicks.
I had to xkill it.

Great idea. I've created a request for this change here:
[link]
To keep things simple, I think this would be a setting on the
"Options" tab, which would default to no delay.
Thanks for the feedback.

I've been using Sloppy for a while now, and have recently come across
a new problem related to network simulation.
Some of our customers in other countries have initial delays of around
300 ms when requesting a new object from our HTTP server. Once the
connection binds however, the transfer speed is fairly high (128kb+).

This is a bug fix release: Sloppy was not sending HTTP Headers
correctly, resulting in HTTP 406 errors from some sites (thanks to
Peter de Keer for the bug report).
[link]
Richard

I've posted a new version of Sloppy. Next time you launch you'll
probably automatically get the new version. There's not much visual
change, but if you look in About box you'll see the version number as
1.1.85.
As usual, launch Sloppy via [link]
The new version includes fixes from Dave Brackeen for:
