The voting so far (http://www.doodle.com/participation.html? pollId=z7668h7kft3guu4v) currently puts 17th January top of the list,
so I'm going to go with that. Put it in your diaries and pass it on!
Please feel free to post what you think you might get up to, as it
encourages a little forward planning, which can be good to avoid
procrastination :)
I think my project for next time will be working more on an online db
idea i've been experimenting with; it's a db especially designed for
internet enabled devices to easily post data at, then ways to view
that data. It involves a crocodile. More info as it unfolds...
Remember, it is the time for new years resolutions, so whatever your
project or start-up idea, now is the time to stop talking about doing
it, come to a SHDC, and start doing it!

Cool, I plan on being there this time at long last :)
I got a Mindstorms kit for Christmas so it would be cool to play with
it. Any of you used it to make a cool project?
I'm also interested in helping with your online db idea. I will post
any more concrete ideas I have in the next few days...

Adrian pointed me at http://www.pachube.com/, which is doing some
interesting stuff for device feeds. Not the same concept or
implementation as i am going after, but interesting to see these
things springing up!

Well given that my name's been mentioned, I should probably introduce myself :-)
Hello, I'm Adrian!
Annoyingly SHDC got started just when I left Cambridge, but after bumping into Simon elsewhere on t'Internet I found out it's going strong and so decided to at least participate virtually. I'm in Liverpool now but do get back to Cambridge from time to time, so if a visit coincides with one of the meetings I'll be along.
I'm more of a software guy by background - lots of embedded C and C++ - and am now freelancing in coding and building small bits of hardware. Generally Arduino-based [1] because it's cheap, easy-to-use and popular. I've just finished soldering up an ethernet board for one of my Arduino projects, so soon Bubblino [2] - my bubble-blowing twitter monitor - will no longer need a companion laptop to talk to the web.
I've also been developing an energy monitor, Mazzini [3], which is in prototype stage at present and is logging the power my server is using live to the web on Pachube [4]. I need to find something with more interesting power consumption, because the server usage doesn't fluctuate much...
I have a blog [5] and am on twitter [6] too, in case anyone wants to keep track of what I get up to.
Looking forward to hearing about what you get up to at the meetings,
Pierre just indirectly reminded me that I should remind you all that
it is SHDC#11 this saturday!
Please bring your inspiration, enthusiasm, and perhaps some drinks/
snacks. If you are a newbie, you are encouraged to bring a cake (i
like this new rule :)
For those needing my address, just email me directly.
I got my weekends mixed up (thought SHDC was last weekend) and now
realise I've promised to visit my other half this weekend. And she's
insisting pretty hard ;)

Procrastination is my middle name...
Nevertheless, I plan to do some bare-metal coding on my beagle board. How about setting a quite reasonable goal of creating a command line interface which can be used to poke around in memory?
I just received a parcel from Rapid with prisms, mirrors, motors etc.
My plan is to build a self-calibrating spectrometer (to measure
spectra of fluorescent lamps) then convert it into a monochromator (to
measure the spectral response of camera sensors).
I'm a Kiwi who is in London for about ten days and noticed your SHDC meetup on Upcoming so am considering heading up to Cambridge for it. (Seeing as I've not managed to make the one that is normally "closest" to me in Wellington.)
Assuming I don't spend all my time talking and/or being nosey about what everyone else is doing I hope to make some progress with one of the following:
My plan is to get an Arduino running as a measurement tool. I have a
few sensors I'd like to put inside our spectroscopy kit to see how the
environment changes over the course of experiments.
