 *Catatan awal menyatakan Sultan Mansur Shah berhasrat ke Tanah Suci tetapi
mangkat sebelum dapat menunaikannya*

IBADAT haji di negara ini dipercayai bermula sejak kedatangan Islam ke
gugusan Kepulauan Melayu pada abad ke 13. Namun, catatan sejarah yang jelas
mengenai perkembangan haji di negara ini sukar diperoleh secara terperinci
kerana tidak banyak maklumat mengenainya.

Dipercayai orang Melayu yang berkemampuan dan terbabit dalam aktiviti
pelayaran ialah kelompok terawal menunaikan haji, namun tiada catatan atau
apa-apa penunjuk aras mengenainya ditemui.
