Two problems with that:
I checked, and it does have two letters as a minimum. Even then, it
disallows proper nouns, (such as, say, the names of the letters of the
alphabet).

I despise Chess sets where I can't immediately tell if I've got a
knight or a bishop etc. (far, far worse if the other side's knights
and bshops look completely different to mine), and several of these
fall straight down there. But not all of them...

It's been around since 1998, so it's hardly a new game. New to you
perhaps. Popular among Mensans and was a Mind Games winner in 1999.

Thanks, Sgt. Pepper. Yes, I've played Banagrams a few times and have
enjoyed it. Some members of my Scrabble club introduced me to it.
We've played it with a scoop of regular Scrabble tiles.
Now I think you should check out my Beatle pages.

I just played a new word game called Quiddler. It has a deck of cards
with a letter on each one, and you form words using the cards in your
hand. Each letter is assigned a point value.
There's a series of rounds starting with a 3-card deal going up to a

Here are the highlights from the five (5) Scrabble games played last
night, Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at the Dover Scrabble Club
(Delaware).
It was another outstanding session, by our own standards. (Even our
most miserable sessions make the best of tournament-style Scrabble

I guess it depends on your definition of "great"...
Mousetrap is widely considered "great" by people (mainly kids) who've
seen it and played it up to, say, a dozen times. But, as I found out
myself when I got it for Christmas as a sprog, it soon wears a bit thin.
A bit like Snakes and Ladders, only not quite as good as that because

What about Axis & Allies? it is a game with an impressive community
behind, played by all ages.
It is a classic wargame, with rules that can be understood by anyone.
The background is the Second World War, from the ending of 1941.
More recent games, but I think they were available in classic editions
