My best friends sister was gender reassigned a couple of years after she became of age. I don't claim to understand it, but I am sympathetic to her obvious torment. Now that she is a he, while he still continues to have the angst and problems of anyone, he feels more "normal" than she ever did before.

I'm just glad that I haven't had to suffer as much as this person has, however you want to refer to him or her. Of course, there are many who suffer worse in a different way but think about it: Incredible public humiliation will be heaped on him/her and he/she knew it and did it anyway, not a thing done lightly. And I think that a prospect for this surgery has to go through very extensive psychiatric testing.
I dislike pointing fingers. We all have our own problems. Live and let live is the way to be, imo, so long as it doesn't negatively affect others people unreasonably.
