Regular ole "90s style" cantis plus Kool-Stops vs. Tektro Oryx
|
| |
So, I'm thinkin' about polishing up the fixed gear and flogging it, to fund a build out--as I'm boring of several years of fixed and single speed riding--I've gotten into long country hauls with snacks and even crazy trips sans car over hill and dale via bike to go shopping...which means more Shimergo questions, which leads me to... more »

Follow-up: Recommendation for short rider
|
| |
I spent all four days of the Labor Day weekend (I had Friday off in addition to Monday) visiting every bike shop in town. Test rode a bunch of bikes, including a couple kid's bikes and two different model folding bikes. The Dahon folder felt okay size-wise, but because of the smaller wheels, it seemed a little "squirrelly" steering. I felt like I was... more »

OT - Lots of wheels
|

Special equipment is an interesting subject, especially when its not it in the good old USA where the private auto is king. I find it good to know that someone has the will and the way to get people out of traffic jams. [link] [link]... more »

Inner tubes
|
| |
I am perplexed at trying to figure out inner tube sizes. My tire is a 32-622 or 28X1 1/4x1 3/4 what the heck does this mean does this equate to a 700c number? I ordered a Nashbar 700x28-32C inner tube. When I was testing out my CO2 pump I inflated the inner tube and it seemed much bigger then the wheel it self. I assumed the were 700X32c... more »

Midsummer Rohloff Speedhub 14 madness

I'm long familiar with the crazy prices on Ebay for thermionic tubes, but here's a Rohloff Speedhub 14 selling second-hand on Ebay for close to what it would cost new from a German discounter: [link] 670 Sterling is about 830 Euro or 1185 USD.... more »

A Cub Reporter’s Casebook of Unimportant Interviews: Franki Krygowski's legs

|
| |
I parked my tenspeed battery-drive stepthrough in front of the smartest caff in town and wondered if my bike was smart enough for Franki Krygowski, the noted cyclist and my first interview. The first part of Franki I saw were his shaven legs, sticking out at right angles to the table. I lifted up the cloth to see if there was... more »

BB - turn by hand?
|
| |
Should a properly fitted BB be easily turned by hand? I took off the cranks and its very stiff and I can only just turn the spindle by hand. I think I know it should be easier than that! Which is a surprise as its less than 2 years old and has probably done less than 3000 km. What octalink BB would you recommend for a touring bike to replace it?... more »

Would a somewhat-worn cog wear out a new chain faster?
|
| |
Would a somewhat-worn cassette cog wear out a new chain faster? assuming there is no 'skipping' [which would make it impossible to use the cog at all] say it;s fairly worn anyway - you suspect this based just on mileage and the fact that you may have let your old chain go a little long but you would like to keep using it, since it doesn;t skip, but you... more »
