The Nanaimo Film School is preparing to celebrate its first full year,
with plans to turn the all-digital film school into one that
specializes in the horror genre.

Ed Richardson, executive producer of the classic, Littlest Hobo
series, and thousands of hours of film and television productions, is
spearheading the new initiative at what he refers to as ‘The Best
Little Film School in North America'

‘The Nanaimo Film School is designed for the future of broadcasting
and filmmaking…a digital future' says Richardson. ‘There is a need
from broadcasters and distributors for digital, cost-effective product
with high production values…that is what this school is all about.
Digital-based productions for the digital age'.
He has also added working on a feature length production as an
extension to the standard 10-week program.

Working in conjunction with Hourglass Films, the students will put
into practice what the school has prepared them for, as principal crew
on one of the ten feature horror projects that Richardson and school
owner, Neil Jackson, have in the works.

‘Digital productions are faster and leaner', says Jackson, who is now
heading up the production side. ‘Ed and I decided that digital was the
way to go, completely…and with genre-specific productions. Not only do
the students get to direct their own projects, but work on real
productions…and they even get to try their hand at FX make-up,
prosthetics and prop making. This is an exciting time for all of
us…and it all begins in January 2005'.

‘Ed has brought considerable production experience to the school. And
his course, The Business Of Film and Television is something that
every media based school should be teaching…and future film and TV
program makers learning', he adds.

Their first project, MYTH, a story that revolves around a cult cable
TV show and its desire to discover the fact behind the Sasquatch
mythology, starts principal photography on 27th November.
