Subject: FS: Virgin Mary
For Sale:

Orsini, Abbe, and Rev. Henry Rutter.  LIFE OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, and
of Her Divine Son, OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.  Illustrated with Fine Engravings
on Steel.  New York, Johnson, Wilson & Company, nd.  ca. 1875, date of the
chromolithographs.  (Cont'd from the title page -- With an Introduction, on
Devotion to Mary, by His Eminence, Cardinal Wiseman, and Lives of Saint
Joseph, Saint Joachim, and Saint Anne, the Spouse and Parents of the Blessed
Virgin.  Approved by The Most Reverend John McCloskey, D. D., Archbishop of
New York.)  Illustrated with 14 black and white plates and 4
chromolithographs in the Blessed Virgin portion (232 pp.), and 28 plates and
2 chromolithographs in the Jesus Christ section (535 pp.)  The stunning
chromolithographs all illustrate quotations from the Gospels of Matthew and
Luke.  Folio (13 " x 10") in full dark brown leather with an elaborate gilt
embossed figure of the Virgin and Baby Jesus on the cover; compartmented
spine decorated in gilt with a gilt title on a black label; all edges gilt.
A second (illustrated) title page and many of the illustrations bear the
imprint of Johnson, Fry & Company, presumably a predecessor publisher.
There is moderate wear on the corners and spine ends.  The interior and the
plates are pristine.  A handsome, near fine copy.  $400.00 U.S.
