Subject: Announce: Functional Programming in Qi (second edition) is published
I am pleased to announce the publication of 'Functional Programming in
Qi (second edition) which incorporates

* A new chapter on abstract programming incorporating structures,
classes and abstract datatypes.
* A new chapter on compiling sequent calculus, incorporating the Qi
Abstract Unification Machine
  and hitherto unpublished compilation techniques.
* A revised final section of nearly 100 pages explaining rule
closures; a new feature which is used to cover computational logic and
expert systems.
* Documentation on how to use Qi YACC and Qi Prolog.
* A Free commercial license.

From the back cover

"Since its inception in 2005, Qi has generated great interest over the
internet.  Here for the first time is the hardcopy exposition of the
language, remastered for the issue of Qi II in 2008.  This second
edition fixes the language standard for Qi.

The book is both a comprehensive introduction to Qi and to functional
programming.  The first half of the book covers foundational material
and is suitable for an undergraduate introduction to functional
programming.

The second half of the book explores the theoretical foundations of
Qi,
including lambda calculus, type theory and logic programming and
concludes with Qi applications in computational logic and expert
systems."

This book covers a complete exposition of the Qi II language in 440
pages and can be ordered through Lambda Associates.

My copy arrived in under 48 hours. I've started reading it and it looks
extremely good so far.

However, I have no idea how to get started. In particular, which free Lisp
should I use if I'm looking to leverage my multicore?

Well thats good going for delivery.

SBCL is the fastest free Lisp.  CLisp is the most reliable.

The publishing company you chose is very efficient - I ordered the
book the night of the day you announced it (Friday?), and it arrived
at my door in *Canada* (gasp) today. I'm very pleased to having been
able to start reading it this evening.

Is the publisher sending email confirmation of orders?  I'm wondering
how long I should wait before it's obvious something is wrong.

Subject: your order of FPQi
It looks to me that they do not send confirmation of orders.  They
need to put more work into their IT, although they are very good on
the print quality.

The FPQi ordering site was seemingly fixed on 5.00 PM Friday.  So the
out period was about 24 hours.

*I'll absolutely chase up an order you feel is taking too long* or if
you want to mail Simon Potter about your order

Generally, if like Jianshi, you are living in Japan, you have to allow
at least a week for your copy to arrive.
