we want to add a new applications server to our Propalms, and we were
wondering about the load balancer options. We have 2 old servers dual
cpu 2,8 GHz with HT (yes I know, bad idea...), so the load balancer
think 4 cpu X 2,8 GHz = 12,2 GHz total. A new X3200 dual cpu 2,2 GHz
and no HT will be seen 2 X 2,2 GHz = 4,4 GHz, so the load balancer
will never use this server until the olders go over the 60% of their
workload.
How can we set the load balancer options to correct this issue?
You could try turning off HT once the new servers are online. If you
only had one HT processor, it might be an issue, but Windows only uses
a single kernel to distinguish between a single processor, single
core, non-HT
and any server that has more than one processor or one core, virtual
or not. The good
thing is the change is usually done in the servers BIOS, so if it
doesn't work (ie. you have issues booting Windows) you can always turn
it back on.

Daz.

P.S. You mention the new server is dual CPU - but aren't the Xeon 3200
series Quad core processor's ? In which case, I'd just see what the
Load Balancer makes of it before hacking about with your old machines !
Massimo,
The best thing to do is change the Load Balancer options. If you open
the console and go to Options | Load Balancer, you will see that
Propalms is most likely basing its model upon unlimited Memory and
CPU. In your case, i would uncheck the CPU option and just leave it as
memory. That way, it doesnt matter how much CPU one server has over
the other, it will always be based upon memory and memory only. let me
know if that makes sense to you.
Thanks,
Brandon
