Feinstein, Hughes & the Archive

Barry Wood

Elaine Feinstein, poet, novelist and biographer wrote The Life of the
Poet, Ted
Hughes’ biography. This day will enable participants to investigate
the recently
acquired Feinstein archive in the John Rylands Special Collection and
other related
archival material, giving an insight into the lives of the two poets.
The day will include
an opportunity to:
- Discuss the specific role and responsibilities of the biographer
- Comparatively assess the two poets in cultural context
- Consider the literary commitments of the two authors
- Work with Stella Halkyard, the Modern Literature archivist
