This month we have two talks on database alternatives, Tokyo Cabinet
(by Mihai Anca) and CouchDB (by Ben Aldred).

Due to the proximity of Christmas the meeting will be on Thursday
December 10th, a week earlier than usual.

Yeah, this is why your images don't get served from rails, your web server
will serve static content before it passes the request to rails.

Ah, so if I had a controller called Static::ThingsController that *didn't*
have an action named "send", then I could have the other actions of the
controller work as normal, but have the static file
"/public/static/things/send.js on" sent statically?
Cool, then I could just fill in the real, dynamic action when I was ready

Thats not a static file tho, if you had a file called index.json, you could
put it in /public/static/things/ and it will be served up like that, without
hitting the rails stack, from [link]

if you need a controller (for authentication for example), you can do it

So, if the controller was Static::ModelsController, and the action was
index, I'd just create this file:
/public/static/models/index.js on

and that should serve it up?

Can't you just put it in the right series of folders under ./public and your webserver (assuming apache/passenger, but should work with others) will serve it straight off the disk for you?

Cheers -- the issue is not that I think the outputting of models as JSON is
complex, though, it's that I haven't created the models & the controllers to
create & administrate them, yet! :)

I have some static JSON files that I want to get served up in a hurry.
Eventually, I'll have them be generated & cache them once a day, but I need
to get the service up there in a hurry, so am going to just create the files
& have them served up.
Should I call something like:
render( :file => "/path/to/file.json", :layout => false, :status => :ok )

You do not need to uncomment the gateway_mode.

Also you just need to find that gateways 'sandbox mode', I have used sage pay in the past (protxi s now sage pay), and im preety sure you can just enable sandbox from sage pay itself, or have a seperate account for testing?

I'm in the process of setting up a protx account for my spree shopping cart,
I want to use my protx test server first, I tried use the following in spree
configuration gateway page:
sub-account: my_test_user
user: vendor_name
pass: password for my_test_user

and i uncomment

ActiveMerchant::Billing::Base. gateway_mode = :test

10th Dec meeting

The sneaky buggers at Geekup have gone and organised their Christmas do on the 10th, the same evening as this months NWRUG. There's some cross-over between NWRUG and Geekup groups so before I go ahead and organise the NWRUG meeting for the 10th clashing with the Geekup meeting I wanted to get a feel for the number of people who actually care :)

Speccing views & controllers in Sinatra

Hi -- I know there's a couple of Sinatra devs around on the list, so thought
I'd ask -- how do you spec your views & controller actions?
There are examples all over the place for speccing the whole stack with
RSpec, but I'm already doing that with cucumber, and want to spec out the
parts with stubbed & mocked values, like I do in Rails.

No worries, just wanted to put it out there... maybe somebody else finds it
interesting and plays around with it... I've actually decided not to
implement what I wanted using the linkparser and just left it as a probable
upgrade idea for later. Hope when I get back to it I'll have more luck
getting it up and going.

I'm really interested in this idea. Just experiencing the process would be exciting.

The Coding Kwoon session I did at NWRUG got lot of people talking about doing a longer session, perhaps at a BarCamp. Would the FTC venue be suitable for a day/afternoon-long Coding Kwoon? Needs a projector and a load of chairs.
