Sunday 4.00 race

Its a pity that the Irish runners are not taking part as they have a
good record in the race. Lets look at the fancied horses as most pat
winners were 15/2 or shorter.

Ghizao - won well on fast ground in August but needs to prove itself
on the soft ground today.
Lidar - won big Doncaster bumper last year and 2nd in Aintree festival

Sunday 3.30 race

Past trends favour horses with SP's of 7-1 or shorter so lets look at:

Reve De Sivola - trainer won in 2008. Should handle ground but has
only been placed at Cheltenham in 3 starts so some slight doubts re
handling the track.
Bobby Ewing - Both wins on good ground or better so that must be a
concern. Could be anything though. Trainer won in 2007.

Sunday 2.55 race

Last years winning trainer Nicky Henderson sends out Erzen who is
early favourite at 6-1. However this is a poor race for favourites
(205 strike rate) and no 4yo has won the race since 1995 so I'll look
elsewhere.

Again Im drawn to 5yo who have a 60% strike rate int he race with my
shortlist being:

2.20 race

The trends here suggest we should look for a 5yo (7/10 wins) at odds
of 9-1 or shorter.

This leaves just two for the shortlist:

HARRY TRICKER - runs for last year's winning stable but has not won on
soft ground and it's 14 years since a conditional jockey last won this
race.

SILVERHAND - jumps form looks average but flat form has been

In last seasons Queen Mother chase Master Minded beat Well Chief
(2nd), Newmill (4th) and Mahogany Blaze (6th).

Whilst the Nicholls horse should still be improving at 6yrs the big
question is whether the horse will be fully ready for this or whether
Well Chief (main danger) can turn the tables for a 10lbs reverse

Sunday 1.10 race

TATANIANO has all the stats in its favour today - favourites have a
60% strike rate in the race and Paul Nicholls has trained 4 winners in
last 10 years all of which had won their sole start of the season.

Odds of 5/6 look skinny for a novice chase though so Ill not be
playing in this race.

Three interesting trends in this event. Favourites have a 63% strike
rate, 5yo have won 6 of last 10 races and since 1999 all winners were
trained by Martin Pipe/Jonjo O’Neill or in Ireland (4 wins).

This suggests that Vinnes Friend should go well although it does have
a very stiff rise in the weights to overcome albeit has proven form on

Past winners tend to be in good recent form and also tend to carry a
lower weight, again with rain expected this could be the case
tomorrow. The following are on my short list with weight difference
stated since last win:

Time Electric + 12lbs
Lie Forrit + 17lbs
Le Beau Bai - 6lbs (albeit this relates to chase form)

Although there are two l fancied Irish runners tomorrow I’ve gone back
to 1986 and still cannot find an Irish trained winner so the trends
are against the overseas challengers. Martin Pipe used to dominate
this race (7 wins) and son David has two runners tomorrow. At 11 years
and with top weight Our Vic has it all to do and one must suspect that

A trappy start to the TV races. Past trends in this race suggest that
lower weighted horses are favoured and given the soft ground
conditions forecast this is likely to be repeated tomorrow.

Looking at the bottom four in the weights the handicapper has moved
the horses as shown below since their last win:

Due to the clash witht he jumps preview on Thursday night I have
decided to cancel the preview of the Friday card although I shall
still post previews of both the Saturday and Sunday cards on line at
about 9pm on Friday/Saturday evenings.

I think we can probably rule out Emperor Claudius and Roi De Vitesse
