First I was having problems receiving emails, that problem is fixed but now I can't send? I have changed all the settings as advised from this site, but no luck... here's the error Account: 'pop-server.columbus.rr.com', Server: 'pop-server.columbus.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR An authentication mechanism MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
The error message you included pertains to receiving, not sending. Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers. Make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is NOT enabled.
If you also have send issues, be sure to post the send error.

In Outlook Express, try using Clear Text, which is the *Log on using* option under the *Servers* tab of the mail account.
To do so:
- On the *Tools *menu, click *Accounts*. This will bring up several tabs. - If you select any listed mail account, the properties will have a *Servers* tab with the *Log on using* option. - Select the *Clear Text *option
