You want to set up O.E. (or Windows Mail) to read these groups? This may help...
You may have deleted the account by accident. Just go to Tools/Accounts/Add/Newsgroup Account then go from there. You'll be adding Microsoft Communites (or msnews.microsoft.com).

Do you have at least "Microsoft Communities" showing below your email folders? If so highlight it - it should then ask you if you want to download all newsgroups. Say yes. Then subscribe to the ones you want. Or, highlight it and then go to Tools/Newsgroups and the list will display.

"Local Folders" is the ONLY directoy that displays. I can find no way to go to a higher directory, or to access other directories. Note I do not have an email account set up on Windows Mail....

Are you using the final RTM Vista? Under Tools (top bar - if not showing right-click the area and click Toolbar) then Accounts. Then Add - Newsgroup Account, can you do that?

Answers: RTM retail Vista Ultimate. Yes I can access the menus as described, and used this method to add accounts. BTW the NG account DOES appear in the list under tools/accounts/news.

Yes that is what I mean. BUT Tools/newsgroups does absolutely NOTHING. Probably need to be in a NG account for this to work, BUT I can's see or display any NG accounts!

Go to View | Layout and uncheck Folder List. Click OK. Close WinMail. Open WinMail, click View Layout and check Folder List. Click Apply and then OK. Do the news accounts show up now?
-- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup. Don't expect an answer to email.
Remove your newsserver account and close WinMail. Then compact the database using my WMUtil program (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/). Then make sure you have turned off email scanning in your antivirus software and then open WinMail and try adding the newsserver back again and see what you get.
