Subject: Apply SBS 2k3 SP1 AFTER Win2k3 SP2 has been applied
I want to migrate from SBS 2k3 to new SBS 2k8 server.  All documentation,
including SBS 2k3 BPA says that SBS 2k3 SP1 "must" be installed...  but there
is also a severe warning that you can NOT install SBS 2k3 SP1 if Windows 2k3
SP2 has already been applied.

How do I proceed?  I really don't want to build the new SBS 2k8 server from
scratch when there is this really wonderful migration tool...

HELP?

Hi:

Are you positive that SBS SP1 was never applied to this SBS server?  Can
you verify the version?  If it is R2, it was included in the media.

You can use several tools to verify exactly what products you have installed.
Here is a link to smallbizserver.net

http://www.smallbizserver.net/tabid/266/articleType/ArticleView/artic...

You can remove Windows SP2 from Add / Remove.  Please read the following:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555912

Once that is done, you can apply SBS SP1 that consists of several parts.
 Check this:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/downloads/sp1/default....

and here:

There is no need to remove W2k3 SP2. You can install SBS 2003 SP1 just like
that.

Hi,

Thanks for your post and Marina and Larry's input.

In addition, here are some information quoted from other similar post:

==================
Downloading and Installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/0/f/e0fee8ce-768d-41c0-8871-...

Note: If one or more of the listed components is already installed, you can skip to the next step.

A. Service Pack 1 for the Windows Server 2003 operating system (skip, if you have SP2 for Windows 2003 installed)
B. Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 1
C. Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1
E. Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment
F. Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1

Since Windows Server 2003 SP2 is released after SBS 2003 SP1, it's recommended to install SBS 2003 SP1 first then Windows Server 2003 SP2.

Regarding Windows Server 2003 SP2 that has several issues with SBS 2003 server, here are some more information for your reference:

The following list describes some best practices to use when you install Windows Server 2003 SP2 on a computer that is running Windows Small Business Server 2003:
