Subject: Unable to access IP
I have an SBS 2003 (SP2) with ISA 2004 standard installed. There are 8 client
computers that are connected to it. I have 5 static IP address and one is on
the server and another is on a security server. I can access the Security
server's webcam from outside the network, but from inside is the trouble. The
two IP are on the same subnet and router. I don't know what the problem is. I
have opened an ISA policy to allow all traffic going out from the Internal
network to External for just this IP, but nothing happens.

Is it a case of not being able to access the IP (like your subject implies)
or not being able to access the security-server? I'm not sure what you mean
by a security server, but in the first instance can you ping it? If you can
ping it then its worth checking that the appropriate port isn't blocked -
assuming http (port 80) then try telnetting to port 80 or using cryping
(google for it) to ping the port.

If either of those don't work then does it make a difference from where on
your network you try to connect? I ask because I assume ISA only runs on the
SBS box (I don't have ISA so that's only an assumption on my part), and I'm
not sure its part of the equation - unless its running on your "security
server".

Otherwise, is your security server webcam configured only to respond to
certain ip addresses? If so then this will be a setting on the software used
to stream its video. Unlikely but worth a check.

Hope this helps.

Subject: RE: Unable to access IP

Hello,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that:

You cannot access the security server from internal network while accessing
it from external network is OK.

If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

To have a clean understanding of your issue, could you please answer the
following questions?

1. What are those 5 static IP address? Are they public Ipv4 addresses or
static assigned private addresses?
2. How many internal networks do you have behind the ISA server?
3. Do you mix different logical IPv4 networks in one physical network
(broadcast domain)?
4. Does your network topology look like:

Internet
|
|
SBS 2003 with ISA server
|
|
|--------Internal clients with private addresses
|
|
2 server with public addresses

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me
know.

Best regards,

Miles Li

Hi,

Thanks for the update.

I'd like to know your network topology to help to check whether there is
incorrect configuration in the ISA that will block the traffic. A IP
address schema will be useful to narrow down the issue if the ISA server
does block the traffic.

1. As you mentioned that the security server has the static public address
assigned, I'd like to know where the security server is connected to. Do it
connected to the internal network?
2. Could you please explain which IP network(s) is in the internal network?
Is it the network that contains 5 static public address? Is it a public
IPv4 network instead of the private one?
3. What network are other clients computers without the static public
address in?

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me
know.

Best regards,

Miles Li
