I'd try:
=INDIRECT("'Spend("&A19&")'!G1 4")
Sometimes you have to surround the sheet names with apostrophes (').
If you include them and they aren't necessary, then they won't hurt.
But if they're required and you don't include them, you've got big trouble!

I'm not sure what the formula in A19 is, but if it's just a row number

I have an Excel 2007 workbook with a summary page and a number of other
sheets named sequentially as in Spend(1), Spend(2), Spend(3), etc. On the
summary sheet, I have a series of numbers, one per row, that correspond with

If you want a formula solution for this, you can put this in G1:
=--LEFT(F1,SEARCH("-",F1)-1)
and this in H1:
=--RIGHT(F1,LEN(F1)-SEARCH("-" ,F1))
and then copy these down as far as required. The -- converts the text
values from LEFT and RIGHT into numeric values, but if text values are
okay for you then just leave the -- out.

Yes, but you will need to include the full path to the file if it is
not open at the same time. The formula will look something like this:

2 conditional formats. Column C is formatted yellow if A1>B1, etc. There
are 10 rows. I want to copy the cell color (but not the format equations) to

Can you see "Analysis" group at the right of the Data tab?
This is where Solver and Data Analysis (Analysis Toolpac) reside

I require to strip out the numbers either side of the hyphen as below. I
then wish to place the numbers on the left of the hyphen in a separate cell

I meant to say its a spreadsheet in two separate files. Is it
possible to change it to include a file name to reference instead of
worksheet in same file? So it looks it up between the two separate
files?

You have just jogged my memory, a few days back I was following instructions
to stop a pop-up window from an anti virus (free) programme and I had to do
this through the safe mode/administrator and show all extensions to get
access to the file I needed to make some changes, thats where it has
