HI Folks,
Another interesting day - Frosty and foggy start in Peebles but by 11 it was still foggy in the valley. It was clear from the Talkers that it was sunny everywhere else, so I headed for the sun. It was due to be SE met wind so Graham and I went exploring in the Pentlands. Although it was breezy at Tinto, it was almost calm all the way up S Black HIll, with only light thermic wafts from the SSW. As the front slowly crept over we finally got a soarable breeze from the S.
We jumped back into Scald Law bowl and soared up to the 2000 limit I'd requested from ATC - then a glide over to Carnethy where it was becoming a lot stronger - then along the ridge at 45 km/ hr without losing any height, and over Glencorse Reservoir towards Castelaw hill. I could see the rifle range wasnt in action but I wasnt sure of the rules so didnt want to risk landing and peeled off the land beside the road in Easter Howgate.
In the right conditions - it must be a fantastic ridge - I dont know why Ive never flown the Pentlands before !
Tuesdays front is now forecast to be slower to clear than they thought, so it doesn't look good. Sorry Alastair - wednesday looks slightly better but not certain yet.
See ya
David
