End of the line for KH Blocker

I am discontinuing KH Blocker - users will no longer be able to download KH Blocker from my website, and users will no longer be able to update the block list. From today, a banner will display on my website informing users of my decision. I have successfully created a new version of KH Blocker to allow updates.
I recommend all users download this version, as all previous versions of KH Blocker will no longer update.
Please uninstall any pervious versions of KH Blocker before installing KH Blocker.

I have no experience with eDexter, but from what you've said i think KH Blocker and eDexter are alike. KH Blocker downloads the HOSTS file from MVPS.org, unzips it, and 'loads' it (keeping a back-up to stop malicious editing). When you press the 'Update' button KH Blocker checks to see whether your current HOSTS file is up-to-date, and if not, downloads the new version.

The HOSTS file does the blocking. So, what exactly does KH Blocker do?
Is it some kind of proxy? Does it do essentially the same thing as
eDexter? I haven't found anything on your website that explains how KH
Blocker works.
I use eDexter to prevent the web browser from stalling on pages that
load banner ads or cookies from sites that are blocked by the HOSTS

Well, it took a lot of work to add that feature into KH Blocker, and after i discovered Windows NT/2000 users were having a problems i deleted the code to release a bug fix version. It was KH Blocker 2.3.1 when i removed the code; but i added the fade-in in version 2.3 - that lasted long!

Yeah, so it's a good job i put that code in, or Windows NT users would
have a problem. On Windows NT the HOSTS file location is,
'c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc \hosts', so there shouldn't be a problem.

well the chances of someone moving the system folder are very slim (by
system folder do you mean the windows folder ) as moving the system folder
will break windows

Good point. In 2.5 i'll add a button to set the HOSTS file location

will find the user's system folder and go from there - that's what my

No, i have fixed this problem in version 2.5. I'm currently adding
better error catching so problems, like the above, don't happen as
often.
Still, it was a good idea. I'm sure if users were having problems they
would simply re-install, or stop using KH Blocker - Stop using equals
bad.
