Dear iContact User,

I started iContact as a tool to solve a problem I had with Google
contacts and decided to give it away for free so others can benefit
from it as well. During the course of last year, I've been surprised
by the level of support and success this little tool has had. It's
been picked up by a couple of PC magazines as the top 50 downloads of
the year as well as has been included in some companion CDs and DVDs
of other publications and has been downloaded more than 70,000 times.

As a thank you to all who supported iContact, I would like to offer
its source code as Open Source under Apache License Version 2.0.

The project is now hosted in Google code here http://code.google.com/p/google-contacts/

I will carry on maintain its website at http://www.dataload.com/icontact
and provide the hosting for its binary downloads.

First of all its a great application, second of all thanks for being
willing to release your hard work into the open source community.  I
for one and it seems many others on this message board appreciate the
work, and are willing to assist you with extending and maintaining the
application.  Let us know how we can best help!

Here are the tasks that you can help with:

1. I started applying different translations but never got round to
finishing it. I put together a small tool app together (checked-in
with the code) that reads the translation files and applies them to
resources of the project. Most of the available translations are now
done, just a couple left.

2. The next step to do is to support groups. It should be fairly easy
but needs Google libraries to be upgraded to the latest version.

3. De-duplicating is also on the cards, since it is something that can
add value to the application (something that is not supported by
Google's web GUI itself).

I think it would be great if we could squeeze these 3 into the next
release.

There is a lot of refactoring to be done since the code has grown
without any refactoring. But I think we can leave that for the release
after the next.

Let me know what you think. I would like to move discussions about the
development to Google Code, so if you are interested, join there.
