When humanity is worn down by years of violence, even the most optimistic have trouble stemming the tide of despair. We do not see hope through the trees or dreams among the stars. Life becomes a struggle to carry on. Despite our history, violence is not a prerequisite to be human. Life does not need to be in a state of conflict to grow. In life, the beauty, the grace and the good vastly outnumber the bad. You see it every day, from a baby's first step to an elderly couple holding hands as they stroll through a park. There is beauty here. There is hope here. There are dreams here. Yet, when a people exist in the shadow of hopelessness there is little light to see. In times such as these we must remember that mankind has risen to where we are today not by the wars we have waged, but by the perseverance of the human spirit to follow the goodness of our soul. We are stronger than we believe and while there is a depth to our despair it is not insurmountable. The steps to humanity's recovery though will not come about one person at a time. Global despair requires global action. The day will come when the people of the world no longer will tolerate the hurt, the outrage, the sadness and the violence. The day will come when we as a people act as one to put an end to our suffering - when we understand that we are the creators of our despair but we are also the builders of our future. That day, we will take the first step from despair as a people, and as a people we will be lifted. Humanity shall step outside the shadow of hopelessness and into the light of our future where mankind works together to promote the well being of all life. There is a cure for despair, and we are that cure.
