It was difficult to gauge when we were there. Sometimes during the day
the place seemed almost empty. Then in the evenings we couldn't get a
table in some of the restaurants. Certainly places like Stella and
Castle View were either empty or almost empty; partly because of the
XL collapse of course. The hotel varied from half-full during the week
to full at weekends.

The numbers of Greek day trippers and week-enders seemed to us to be
very healthy indeed.

I think numbers are definitely down but it didn't look like a
disaster. The proprietors that we spoke to just seemed to be battening
down the hatches and hoping for an upturn next year. The most popular
places will always do OK, it's the less popular places that will
struggle the most.

Prices in the bars and tavernas seemed to remain unchanged. This is
remarkable given the price rises in the supermarkets and shops in
Rhodes year on year.

I was speaking to Sylvia from the hotel and she said that here prices
for food an accommodation had remained the same since the euro was
introduced in 2001!

Haraki is still great value for the UK visitor.

Bob.

Hi Bob. I'm glad to see the situation does'nt look like worsening any more. Just hope it picks and hopefully next year will be normal service resumed. Given the horrendous state of the Greek economy as a whole it seems the Harakians have done well to keep the prices so competetive and long may they do so. They have to be congratulated on that. Given the fact that a pint of John Smith's bitter in Jacks cost me the equivalent of about £3, it's only about 40p dearer than I pay here and it's travelled the best part of 2000 miles so it ain't a bad deal.Still, it won't be long before you go again will it Bob?. Aug 26th for me. Not long now.  Barry

Hi all from sunny Haraki

Just on the internet before Hubby wakes up after another late night at Jacks.  It was mobbed in here last night the festival is on and there were alot of locals around.  Paula says hello and yes they are keeping the prices down for yet another season.

I was talking to the Olmpic Rep yesterday and told him of our concerns regarding not being able to get out next year.  He said that they were being the only operators here taking on more accommodation next year, he spefically mention Castle View, so maybe that will be in the tourists choice next year.

There isn't alot of Tourist about, but there are plenty of locals keeping the bars and resturants busy, maybe not as much profit but it will keep the place ticking over until the Tourists start coming back when the uncertainty of jobs etc which is keeping everyone away at the moment.

Have to go Euro is running out in the meter.

Maria

Hi Maria. I'm glad to hear it sounds a little more positive and yes it will be busy while the festival's on. Let's hope it does'nt drop off too much when they've gone.
