Yes, could be. Could be a combination of a lot of things; the
financial situation, swine flu, the weather. They need bums on seats
and obviously haven't sold at the previous high prices so are selling
off last minute. Prices two weeks later are still more than double.
Maybe this year the bargains will be for those who book late
availability.
I found even cheaper flights on flythomascook.com, two of us for less
that £200. Trouble is we're too busy at home - damn!

P.S. Haraki's 'cool and wet' is relative. I bet it's still lovely

Flightline were offering return flights Manchester to Rhodes on
Monarch at £110 per person this morning for flights tomorrow. One can
surmise that there were empty seats so bargains to be had for those
willing to hang on 'til the last minute.
I booked me flights in january. Yesterday, they came down by £70 per person but with my wife's mobility prob and needing to acquire the welfare seat I could'nt afford to hang on. So I guess the seats ain't filling up fast enough
Cheap deals again this week for flights next Wednesday. A quick scan
found £104 return from Gatwick, £133 from Manchester, a few quid more
from Birmingham (all source Flightline). Jet2 not so cheap at £200
return. All discounted for late availability though. Looking like the
trend continues.
The flight I booked on Jan 6th has come down by 50% today to £97 return. All the odds & sods take it upto a total of £256. Ain't bad is it. I usually wait for late deals but this year I could'nt as I had to guarantee the welfare seat for my wife but for those prepared to wait it's obviously still worth a bet.
Flightline are offering flights for this Wednesday for £150 (return,
Manchester).
I forgot to say in the Jet2 post that there were at least eight empty
seats (that I could see) on the aircraft. However they weren't
offering any significant discounts even the day before we flew.
Planes still flying out with plenty of room Bob. I was talking to a pal who works at Manchester. He says they have'nt had one full aircraft leave for the Greek, Balearic or Canary Islands yet this season. Amazing innit?
Not really when you think about the cost of things over there. People will have heard from others re: 6euro's a beer, not something that is going to encourage lots of tourists. We knew it would be expensive, but staying in Haraki was the cheapest anywhere and some of the visiting tourists where saying how expensive other places where and they would be looking elsewhere next year. There is a knock on effect and word gets around very very quickly.

It's a well known fact that the Greek economy is worse off than any country in the EU. Some traders in various parts of the Greek Islands are charging 6 euros a drink yet some places such as Haraki have'nt jumped on the bandwagon. I know where my affiliations lie and I sincerely thank them for doing it. And I'll be back to support their cause in a few weeks.

We won't be until next year now but thankfully they are on Olmpics website for 2010 so will be booking again in January, wait for the price to come down a bit first. Unfortunately we can only go once a year, but NEXT June we will be ready for another great holiday.
