History week

Tucked away at the far north of Scotland, nestled in the middle of the Orkney Islands lies Scapa Flow, the final resting place for seven wrecks, the last remnants of the German High Seas Fleet.

The story of how they got there encompasses world history on an epic scale, of an escalation in sabre-rattling brinkmanship that led to the Great War.  Of human folly and pride, at the height of the race for world sea power, of economic folly on a national level and a thousand facts and figures that can swamp a visitor in their short spell here in the Flow.

With the ScapaHistory week, Halton Charters with Kieran Hatton in the driving seat aims to illustrate the background to these wrecks, and of Scapa Flow as a whole with:
  • history talks through out the week
  • comprehensive pre-dive briefings
  • question and answer sessions
  • post dive debriefs
  • visits to Wee Fea and other remaining terrestrial war emplacements
  • an onboard host through out the week
This background detail will allow you to cut through the mass of information bringing the history alive and place the wrecks in context, ensuring you reap the maximum reward from the weeks diving.

Dive into the site and see what a ScapaHistory week has to offer.
